solo visual arts exhibit may 7th - june 30th, 2010, at the c.g. jung center, 408 franklin street, buffalo, new york

This is a Solo Exhibit of recent visual artwork consisting of mixed media collage and expressive oil paintings by Laurie A. Tanner. This exhibit seeks to explore the creative process as a form of self expression that chooses to unite the ethereal aspect of my artwork with the intangible language I respond to in the music I actively listen to. Each piece of artwork is created to a specific genre of music that involves the lyricism of the track and/or as well as the tonality and composition. The intent is to create a visual response to the selected music in a way that expresses the power of self-healing and self-reliance.

"In the case of the work of art we have to deal with the product of complicated psychic activities-but a product that is apparently intentional and consciously shaped. In the case of the artist we must deal with the psychic apparatus itself. In the first instance we must attempt the psychological analysis of a definitely circumscribed and concrete artistic achievement, while in the second we must analyze the living and creative human being as a unique personality. Although these two undertakings are closely related and even interdependent, neither of them can yield the explanations that are sought by the other." ~Modern Man by Carl Jung.

"It is the function of art to renew our perception. What we are familiar with we cease to see. The writer/artist shakes up the familiar scene, and, as if by magic, we see a new meaning in it." ~Anais Nin
